David W. Canfield, D.D.S., F.A.D.S.A.
Dr. Canfield earned his dental degree at U.C.L.A. School of Dentistry then
completed a comprehensive residency in Anesthesiology at the University of
Pittsburgh. He came to Dallas to teach at Baylor College of Dentistry as Coordinator
of Pain and Anxiety Control. He is formerly an assistant professor in the Department
of Pharmacology. He is currently a medical consultant and anesthesia provider
for the Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation and Staff Anesthesiologist
(Dental Unit), Veterans Administration Medical Center at Temple. He is a frequent
presenter for the Department of Continuing Education at Baylor College of Dentistry,
Texas A & M University. Dr. Canfield is a Fellow in General Anesthesia
of the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology, and formerly a Fellowship
Examiner for the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology. He is a Diplomate
of both the American Dental Board of Anesthesiology and National Dental Board
of Anesthesiology. He is also a Certified and Registered Hypnotherapist.
Dr.
Canfield presents many seminars and continuing education programs nationally
related to patient evaluation and management, pharmacology, management of
pain and anxiety in dentistry, prevention and management of medical emergencies
and various aspects of anesthesia. He has served on the anesthesia task committee
of the Texas Dental Association. He is the author of many publications and
educational tapes related to anesthesia and also the management of medical
emergencies. He is author or co-author of several educational and training
programs related to Nitrous Oxide, Oral Sedation, Intravenous and Intramuscular
Sedation and General Anesthesia. He is utilized as a consultant to several
State Dental Boards in developing and/ or implementing new anesthesia guidelines
for their respective states. Several state dental boards recognize these
anesthesia
programs to provide certification in various aspects of anesthesia for their
licensed dentists. He is also involved in anesthesia research and hypnosis
therapy for dental patients.
